Parenting Series
As we say, it takes a village and the cloud. Which is why we are excited to offer the resources needed to do just that. Our unique parenting series includes classes on your child’s development to classes for new parents and even classes on potty training.
Watch here and on our Facebook page for announcements for new classes and offerings as well as sign ups.
Our developmental playgroups will be directed by Dr. Maureen Fischer. Dr. Fischer has over 20 years experience working as an occupational therapist (OT), eleven in early intervention. In early intervention, she worked closely with parents of infants and toddlers providing education and strategies in promoting development. Dr. Fischer currently teaches at the University of St. Augustine for Health Sciences in the pediatric course, and has her own business, AskanOT. Through AskanOT, Dr. Fischer provides parents of children consultative services to empower them to work with their child through their daily routines to promote child development. Dr. Fischer is passionate about parent education in development, completing her Capstone project in that area. She lives in Nocatee with her husband and two daughters Shannon and Marielle (and her pug Leo), moving here from Baltimore in 2017.
The development of your child is one of the most important factors to not only know but to master. In fact, eighty percent of the human brain’s structure takes shape between the ages 0-3. Which is why we are excited to offer a developmental playgroup series that has six main goals: education on developmental milestones, resources on development, strategies to promote development, opportunities for practice, opportunities to interact with other parents and improve parents’ understanding of development and comfort with promoting developmental milestones.
Our Developmental playgroups will be facilitated by an experienced pediatric occupational therapist who will provide information and resources on developmental milestones for your baby’s age and stage. Helpful tips will be shown on promoting development that you will have the opportunity to practice with your baby while also interacting with parents of same-age babies!
These playgroups will be a 2 series class focusing on motor function.
Session 1:
- Reivew of gross motor milestones 0-6 months
- Tolerating tummy time, positioning, promoting rolling and prop-sitting
- Social time, review of strategies and occupational therapy questions specific to your child
Session 2:
- Discuss success of strategies learned during session one
- Review and discuss social, play, fine motor developmental milestones and how to interact with your baby
- Interacting with your baby, early fine motor-skills and time to practice while interacting with other moms and occupational therapy questions specific to your child
